Enferma

Friday night I did end up going out. It was quite fun; I met some people in the program, met my tutor, got to experience a bar. I even made it back safely :)
Saturday I was very sick, so I spent a lot of time in bed. But I did make it out of bed to go to salsa dancing lessons with Adriana's cousin Rodrigo (who I kept calling Rodriguez)  for a while. Like for 2 hours, which was totally fun but probably not my best choice ever, since I was sick.
Today, Sunday, I am feeling mostly better. I have to be ready for school tomorrow, cant miss my first day.
Its still as hot as ever here, which im actually still enjoying for the most part.
My entertainment with the culture continues with two things: flaky people and freedom for babies. I was warned coming here that peoples sense of time is different, so I mentally prepared for that. What I was not as prepared for is people telling you one thing or making plans to do something, and then changing them every time  I've been here for what, like 4 days now and I have yet to have a plan with a local that hasn't changed at least twice. This difference in culture will allow me to practice "going with the flow" which will be a big change from my day scheduled on google calendar and synced to my phone to for reminders.
And second for the baby thing, this one I dont know if it is just this family or what but the only way to describe it is freedom for baby. That baby does what she wants and its all cool. So far Ive watched her, and watched her mother watch her, eat the lead out of a pencil, eat an ant, suck on a raw potato covered in dirt, stick her hand in the jar of jelly (which I was then served the next day), pull every plug out of the back of the TV, completely empty a kitchen cabinet, pour salt into her mouth from the salt shaker, and then suck on the top of the salt shaker (and then I was offered the salt shaker for my potatoes). And it wasn't like I was supposed to be watching the baby, her mother or grandmother were in the room for each of those incidents. Its just a different way of raising a child. Some other things that I haven't seen before, feeding the child (who is 1) coke, her baby bottle only ever has water in it (never milk), they let her crawl around on the dinner table, she is put bed at 1 am, and the other day I'm pretty sure I was served for dinner what she didn't finish for her lunch. And more than once I have walked into my room and just found her in there, I guess that is incentive to keep my room picked up haha. But anyway, I am seeing a side of the culture that I wouldn't see staying in a dorm or apartment with other students, I definitely see how staying in a home stay gives me more access to see the culture.
Also, it hailed the other day, and I forgot to put that picture on here too. It was literally like the size of tennis balls.
Hail, large hail (granizo)
